On November 15, the Capitol Police assaulted peaceful protesters at DNC headquarters. According to mainstream media outlets, the protests “turned violent.” In reality, the police became violent, the protesters were peaceful. The protesters, which included members of Jewish Voice for Peace, IfNotNow Movement, and DSA were simply calling for a ceasefire. This is a reasonable position to take and is supported by a majority of the US. According to an October 20th Data for Progress Poll, 66% of voters agree with calling for a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, House Resolution 786 which calls for a ceasefire only has 17 co-sponsors in the House and Sen. Richard J. Durbin is the only senator to have called for a ceasefire. It is clear that the DNC deserves to be protested at every opportunity as they are against the will of the people they theoretically represent.
Instead of listening to the demands of the protesters, the DNC was happy to let the Capitol Police brutalize the peaceful gathering. This was the same organization that escorted the Q’Anon Shaman onto the senate floor on January 6. When it came to violent neo-Nazis storming the capitol, these Capitol Police were happy to provide escort, but when it came to peaceful Jewish protesters calling for a ceasefire, they had nothing but pepper spray and violence.
In May of 2021, the Capitol Police were funded with $1.9 billion dollars due to the weakness of the squad in opposing the bill. According to Ryan Grim of the Intercept, “Democratic Reps. Cori Bush of Missouri, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts voted to take the measure down, but Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman of New York, along with Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, voted present.” The bill passed 213-212 and a tie would have meant failure, meaning that if only one of the three who voted present had voted against it, it would have failed. After several revisions, a version of this bill passed the senate 98-0.
It would be more accurate to call the Capitol Police the Capital Police as they are defending capitalism. As Lenin explained in State and Revolution, “A standing army and police are the chief instruments of state power.” This is not something that can be reformed away. Every vote to increase police and military budgets increases the power of the state and the US state is corrupt and beholden to capital. All the greatest supporters of the working class have come down firmly on the side of revolution.
The most heroic word in all languages is REVOLUTION.
It thrills and vibrates; cheers and inspires. Tyrants and time-servers fear it, but the oppressed hail it with joy.
The throne trembles when this throbbing word is lisped, but to the hovel it is food for the famishing and hope for the victims of despair.
Where Bernie Sanders can’t even bring himself to support a ceasefire during a clear genocide, Eugene V. Debs was thrown in prison for opposing imperialist war. Rosa Luxemberg and Karl Liebknecht were also imprisoned for opposing war and eventually murdered for supporting revolution. Reformism has proven itself a dead end that only supports the status quo of death and despair. It is time for a revolution.
Gathering around and protecting the president who, along with his Zionist colleagues, are being charged with genocide, is not a pretty picture for a party claiming to be of and for the people. Lashing out violently at those calling for an end to the mass murder of children is beyond reprehensible.
When a party's rhetoric proclaims healthcare a human right but when it's time to run M4A across the goal line; the result is a fumble -- consistently, well you have to conclude that humanity is not their top priority.
But God (condemn) help them, to ignore this brutal extermination of fellow humans is their new low. And low that is.
