I agree with your basic premise, but it seems impossible for the US to undergo a socialist revolution barring an existential calamity: economic collapse or military defeat. Arguably we are barreling toward both at present.

But even without a revolution, there are steps that could be taken if the oligarchs were sufficiently threatened to permit them. Diverting billions from imperialist wars and pointless drug enforcement would permit proper funding of mental health and addiction services, and the construction of social housing. Landlords could be forced to pay egregious tax penalties or fines for any apartment or house left vacant. Corporations and investment funds could be prohibited from owning residential properties.

The “Left” could scare the oligarchs enough to make those changes, but we first have to unite rather than keep canceling one another and calling workers who have yet to understand the situation ignorant racists. Our window of opportunity may be opening. Either we take advantage or the fascists will.

Indeed. But as long as Democrats and Republicans have power, none of those steps will be taken. Unions have a lot of power but refuse to use it. Both parties are enabling and supporting fascism and the mass organizations that could create an impact are supporting the parties.
