A year after the events of October 7, 2023, the ruling class is still peddling the same tired old lies. These lies are meant to justify the last year of genocide (and 75 years before that) by Israel. We are supposed to believe that history began on October 7 and the legitimate act of resistance by the oppressed Palestinian people began a war. But the reality is that Israel has planned this genocide for years and they created a narrative of lies around October 7 to justify this genocide. The US ruling class are happy to comply with this big lie.
In this tweet, Barack Obama is using the long debunked 1,400 number. The actual number is 1,139. Apparently Obama did not get the memo that the number was continually revised down by Israel itself. The original number of 1,400 which was released on October 14. This was revised down to 1,200 on November 10 and then again to the exact number of 1,139.
The final death toll from the attack is now thought to be 695 Israeli civilians, including 36 children, as well as 373 security forces and 71 foreigners, giving a total of 1,139.
And Biden does not mention that many of these casualties were caused by friendly fire - Israel’s own Hannibal directive being used to execute Israeli civilians. While it is impossible to come to a specific number, a recent report by Electronic Intifada tells us that “Israel killed hundreds of its own people between 7 and 9 October 2023.”
The assertion that Hamas killed 1,400 Israelis is patently false. Obama using this number is blatant propaganda.
President Biden and Vice President Harris both also released statements in commemoration of the anniversary.
In his statement, President Biden (Genocide Joe) stated:
Today marks one year of mourning for the more than 1,200 innocent people of all ages, including 46 Americans, massacred in southern Israel by the terrorist group Hamas. One year since Hamas committed horrific acts of sexual violence. One year since more than 250 innocents were taken hostage, including 12 Americans.
Once again, the number is incorrect. The true number of 1,139 cannot even be reasonably rounded up to 1,200. It is at least closer to the actual number than Obama’s 1,400, but nevertheless inaccurate. And as with Obama, no mention is made of the hundreds killed by Israeli fire.
Vice President Harris made a similar statement including:
I will never forget the horror of October 7, 2023. 1,200 innocent people, including 46 Americans, were massacred by Hamas terrorists. Women raped on the side of the road. 250 people kidnapped.
She uses the term massacre, which is not a good description of a legitimate act of resistance. Any massacring that was done on October 7, was done by Israel. She not only refers to sexual violence, but directly invokes the long debunked rape story. There is no actual evidence that any rapes happened during the October 7 attack.
It has been a year and they’re still lying to us about mass rapes on October 7 in order to justify genocide.
And it is not just Obama, Biden, and Harris lying to us. It is also so-called progressives Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In her statement on October 7, AOC said:
The violence perpetrated by Hamas on October 7th, murdering more than 1,200 people and kidnapping hundreds of innocent men, women, and children, was a crime against humanity and an atrocity that will shock generations to come. It was the single deadliest day for Jewish people since the Holocaust. I have seen footage from that day. I will never forget it.
Once again, she is also using the incorrect 1,200 number. She is also equating an act of legitimate resistance against an occupying power with a crime against humanity and an atrocity. This is an absurdity. Was the Warsaw Ghetto uprising against Nazi Germany an atrocity? A crime against humanity? She goes on to contradict her own assertion that Kamala Harris is working tirelessly towards a ceasefire when she says, “The Biden Administration has failed in its responsibility and own stated goals to prevent a wider regional conflict. The administration’s refusal to enforce U.S. Leahy laws and humanitarian standards has contributed to the devastation in Gaza, added to the profound human toll on and since October 7th, and allowed the conflict to escalate.” There is no consistency here, she has endorsed Kamala Harris but is trying to blame her administration for their failure to uphold the law when it comes to Palestine.
Bernie Sanders, who has been working tirelessly to elect Holocaust Harris, also made a statement:
Today marks one year since the horrific Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, which killed 1,200 innocent men, women, and children, and took some 250 hostages, including Americans, many of whom are still being held captive today. Yahya Sinwar and his Hamas accomplices are responsible for mass murder, the taking of hostages, and sexual violence. They are war criminals. Nobody should forgive or forget those atrocities, which began this war.
He follows the same pattern as the others - no difference here from Joe Biden or Kamala Harris. He even invokes the sexual violence story.
The purpose of each of these statements is to convince us to believe that the underlying cause of the ongoing genocide (none of them use that term of course) is the attack on October 7. They all go on to mention what is happening in Gaza, but for them it all starts with October 7. President Biden says, “I believe that history will also remember October 7th as a dark day for the Palestinian people because of the conflict that Hamas unleashed that day.” Hamas did not unleash that conflict - Israel did when they ethnically cleansed Palestine in 1948.
Hamas’s terrorist attack on October 7 launched a war in Gaza. I am heartbroken over the scale of death and destruction in Gaza over the past year—tens of thousands of lives lost, children fleeing for safety over and over again, mothers and fathers struggling to obtain food, water, and medicine. - Kamala Harris
Bernie expounds upon the genocide more than the others, but in the end his message is no different, “Since October 7th, this ongoing conflict and the horrific humanitarian crisis have been a daily torment.” Yet for the Palestinians, it has been a daily torment for 76 years, not just since October 7.
Donald Trump also remembered October 7 at an event. Like the others he used the 1,200 number and referred to terrible atrocities:
October 7th was not just the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. It was not just the worst terror attack since 9-11. It was an attack on humanity itself. It was a hideous, incredible cruelty. It was chilling savagery. It was demonic delight. And the destruction of innocent life on October 7th, it seemed as if the gates of hell had sprung open and unleashed their horrors onto the world. And that’s exactly what happened. What a moment in time. What a moment in horrible history. Horrible history.
There is really no difference between the two parties when it comes to supporting genocide. All of these politicians are simply applying Hitler’s theory of the big lie, “that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.” There is no bigger lie than that October 7 was the cause of the ongoing genocide in Palestine. This propaganda campaign to justify the genocide is Nazi level propaganda.
The reality is that Palestinian resistance to occupation is entirely justified. And it is important to remember that Hamas was striking military targets on October 7. Out of the 1,139 killed, 695 were Israeli civilians. A total of 373 were Israeli security forces. And out of the civilian casualties, hundreds were killed by Israeli fire, not by Hamas. It is likely that the majority of the civilian casualties were inflicted by Israeli tank, artillery, and helicopter bombardment. This includes the bulk of the civilian casualties who were at the Nova music festival where 364 people were killed. Electronic Intifada cites a UN report in the following:
In its section on the Hannibal Directive, the UN report even states that “Israeli helicopters were present at the Nova site and may have shot at targets on the ground, including civilian vehicles.” It states that “one or two helicopters” were “present over the Nova festival site in the mid-morning hours.”
This is something The Electronic Intifada first reported in November.
The UN report cites the testimony of two unnamed witnesses to back this up, including an Israeli army “reserve brigadier general, who fought against militants near a parked tank close to the Nova site” and explained that “he called the Gaza Battalion to request an attack helicopter.”
The presence of attack helicopters – and of at least one tank – in the battle for the Supernova rave site could also go some way towards explaining the high number of noncombatant casualties among the fleeing rave attendees that morning.
While it is impossible to know how many civilians were killed by Israel, the evidence shows that Israel killed hundreds of them. And as the occupying power, Israel is morally responsible for all the civilian deaths, including those inflicted by Hamas. Palestine is justified in their resistance to the Israeli regime, which long before October 7 was routinely murdering Palestinian children. On September 18, 2023, it was reported by Save the Children that:
At least 38 Palestinian children have been killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank so far in 2023, making it the deadliest year since records began, said Save the Children.
That is more children in the West Bank than were killed in the October 7 attack, yet no one in Washington was talking about them. And these children were deliberately targeted by Israel - whereas there is no evidence of Hamas targeting children on October 7. The representatives of the ruling class want us to believe that history began on October 7. That is simply false - Palestine has been under Israeli occupation since 1948. The people have Palestine have every right to resist this occupation.
I wrote about this a year ago as well:
The Violence of the Oppressors
Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the United States. While it is important to talk about the oppression of the indigenous people here at home, due to recent events today I’m going to focus on the indigenous peoples of Palestine.
