It took me a while to catch up on the most streamed movie of the holiday season, but I did finally watch Don’t Look Up. I wasn’t at all disappointed, it is a brilliant satire of our society written by Adam McKay and David Sirota. I’m not sure that it will go down in history as being a classic like the Cold War satire Dr Strangelove, but that’s mostly because climate change might end history before we get to that point. There are so many references to recent political happenings that I might need to watch it again to pick up on them all. No one is spared in its critique from the military industrial complex to the billionaires to the lobbyists, politicians, and scientists. It’s a bleak picture of our reality facing down climate change with no one in power willing to enact what it would take to mitigate the issue.
You can watch it on Netflix here:
I love it. Going to watch again.
I had no idea Sirota wrote it. I will now most definitely have to watch it. Irony that Streep is in it as she was the most embarrassing Hillary supporter on the planet. Totally unhinged.
