Remember last week when I mentioned A Bug’s Life? While, that’s this week’s reasonable movie. Unfortunately, it is owned the mega corporation of Disney and only available for streaming through Disney+. I’m anti paywalls, which is why all my newsletters are free to everyone (though I greatly appreciate my paying subscribers, they make it possible for me to spend more time on this endeavor like adding this additional newsletter). Under a communist society, all entertainment will be free to all. Until then, we’ll have to deal with subscription services and paywalls. If you do not have access to Disney+, I’m sorry you won’t be able to watch today’s movie recommendation.
A Bug’s Life is not as openly communist as the last two films, but it is a fun animated romp with an anti-fascist, revolutionary message. It’s a favorite of leftists everywhere and even contains a veiled reference to dialectical materialism (hello Marxists!). See if you can find it! The fascist grasshopper speech is well done and reminds me of fascist speeches throughout history. Even if you don’t have access to the full movie on Disney+, I recommend watching this clip on YouTube. This is a great way to introduce kids and adults to class consciousness!
